This was it, here she was, just as she had always planned on. She was still in a daze, feeling as though she could hear the crooning of Frank Sinatra's hit in the back ground. It was still within the first week of her arrival, not yet had the dazzle of it all been ruined, even if she had met several people who were not the nicest. It had been obvious to her, that she was not going to be surrounded by an overload of hospitable people, she still had not quite managed to make herself blend into the mold of a New Yorker. Her clothes clashed with the name brand styles, it was all relatively clear on what appearances meant here, a strong contrast from what she was used to in the small town back in New Hampshire that she used to claim as her home. Home was a distant word though, ever since her father had remarried some gold digger ditz of a wife. Now, Patricia could not interfere with Des's plans. Leaving her father had been a difficult decision though she trusted he could handle himself while her step-mother nearly pushed her out the door. That was not something to focus on anymore, she was here, on her own and thrown into the real world. All along she had known that this probably would not going to be the glorious of transitions, though her father had sent her along with a bank account to assist in college and living expenses in which she wanted to depend on as little as possible. She was not the fool who assumed she would never need it though, she had a lot of work to do as she settled into the role of a working college student. Within her first three days, she had dropped off an application at several of the nearby restaurants and was waiting anxiously for one to return a call for an interview but she knew that she needed to be patient. Today though, was a day to explore more as there was so little on the city she had yet to see. She wanted to get out and know every little bit of it by heart though that may not be the most realistic of goals. The first place she had her sights set on for the afternoon was ultimately the mall, after all who did not end up in New York and miss out on the shopping. No matter how cliche it might have been, she did not plan on skipping that part of her being here. She hated shopping for the most part but the curiosity drew her there and well, she needed to fit in and become familiar with what they referred to as style here. Her casual wear of jeans and simple t-shirts appeared to be outdated and she was constantly cast dirty looks while others were sizing her up as they passed by. As of yet, the art of haling a cab was not in her forte as she had managed to get one out of several that she had needed in different places so for now she stuck to walking which was probably a horrendous idea if she managed to get herself lost which was very much a large possibility. There was always the subway but that was something she was quite weary of for now.
The walk to the mall from her apartment was somewhat short, which was very lucky. Though if it was dark by the time she chose to leave, she did plan on snagging a cab one way or another. If she wanted to survive in this city, she really needed to be a little more street smart in that sense. In the future, she had plans of getting a mo-ped possibly though for now that was put on a back burner given the fact that she needed to get her roots settled out first. After stepping inside the mall, her mouth nearly gaped as she glanced up to notice the many different levels and realized that this was no where near the caliber of malls she had been to in the past. Had she liked to shop, this would have been a new found favorite hang out, but once again this was simply for experimentation purposes. Rather than starting on the first floor, she decided to hop on the escalator and then begin her aimless wandering. At first she passed by several stores though the familiar sign indicating a Starbucks was what really caught her eye as she made a beeline in that direction to get a peppermint mocha and took a seat at one of the tables within the small cafe. Sitting with a relaxed poise as she watched the people pass by, she could definitely see how she tended to stick out like a fish out of water here. The style that she was used to was probably dumpster worthy in New York. Usually she would not have been one to care although now she was a little self conscious when it came to the large city. If she wanted to later on make a name for herself, she was going to have to dress for the part.
